Less is more

While this idea isn't exactly a new or revolutionary one, it's how it's put into practice that we find has aesthetic affect. When it comes to decorating the tree it might be that you opt for having different sizes of the same bauble or at least sticking to the same colour throughout to give an easy, but effectively simplistic and stylish look on the eye.

Keep it natural

Cringe at the sight of plastic trees covered in tinsel? Why not try creating your own Christmas decorations out of dried orange and cinnamon with friends, making memories at the same time (and perhaps even having a glass of mulled wine too)? These could then be paired with some paper Christmas decorations to create a rustic feel.
